London's
Royal Albert Hall played host to some operatic glamour
on Wednesday night when a series of musical beauties
arrived for the Classical Brit Awards.
Former
Hear'Say star Myleene Klass sashayed up the red carpet
in a strapless white number, while violinist Vanessa-Mae
looked equally stunning in gold. ITV newsreader Katie
Derham, who hosted the event,
likewise
made quite an impression in a backless white gown.
Teen
opera sensation Hayley Westenra, who has enjoyed phenomenal
success with her album Pure, was also dressed to impress.
But both she and Myleene lost out to Welsh baritone
Bryn Terfel in the best album category.
Hayley
still managed to steal the show with a performance of
Po Kari Kari Ana. And she didn't seem too disappointed
about not winning a gong: "I hadn't even worked
out a speech anyway so I was saved," she joked
afterwards.
Renowned
composer Phillip Glass meanwhile took the honours in
the contemporary music category, thanks to his soundtrack
for the Nicole Kidman movie The Hours. Other celebs
attending the glitzy prizegiving included actor Nigel
Havers and musical star Elaine Paige.
